2008年より、ヘルシンキに在住していた代表・八ツ賀が、職場の仲間とともに毎夏モルックをしていた。

　2010年、代表・八ツ賀が周囲の日本人に声をかけ、5人の日本人チームを作り、初めて日本チームとしてモルック世界大会に参加した。モルック世界大会に日本人が参加したのはこの年が初めてであった。この年は、2回戦敗退であった。当時のチーム名は、Wasabiであった。

　2011年、昨年の教訓・経験を活かし、5月より定期的に練習を開始した。7月に初めてフィンランド国外の大会であるスロバキアモルック大会へチームジャパンとして出場（総合4位）。自分たちの練習方法に自信を持つと同時に、日本国・日本人の代表としての意識を強め、モルックを通じて国際交流を深めることを決意する。その後すぐに日本モルック協会（JMA）創設、同時にフィンランド国際モルック協会（FIMA）初の国際メンバーとして加入。この年より、チーム名をチームジャパンへ改名、固定とした。

　各国のモルック協会、特にフィンランド国際モルック協会（FIMA）と共に、日本国内でのモルックの普及、日本チームの強化を目的として活動を続けている。

From 2008, the president of JMA, Shuichi Yatsuga, played mölkky with his co-workers every summer in Helsinki.

In 2010, the president of JMA made Japanese team. This team participated in the World Mölkky Tournament in Lahti for the first time ever. No Japanese had ever participated in the World Mölkky Tournament before. We lost at 2nd stage. The team name was “wasabi” at that time.

In 2011 May, we started regular practice in Helsinki. We participated in Slovakia Mölkky Tournament in July (Overall 4th place). We grew confident in our practice, and during that time also became aware Japanese citizens, which led to our decision to promote international interaction through mölkky. Then, we founded the Japan Mölkky Association (JMA), and became a first international member of Finland International Mölkky Association (FIMA). Our team name was fixed as “Team Japan”.

Together with FIMA and other international mölkky organization, we aim to spread mölkky throughout Japan and to strengthen “Team Japan”.
